About this tour

The Panch Kedar Trek is a revered and soulful pilgrimage in the Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand, connecting five ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva: Kedarnath, Madhyamaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar. The tradition says these five temples were established by the Pandavas to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva after the Mahabharata war. The trek traverses diverse landscapes including deep forests, alpine meadows, rushing rivers, and high mountain passes.

Covering roughly 95 km over 10-12 days, it offers a blend of spiritual immersion and thrilling trekking, culminating in encounters with breathtaking mountain panoramas and rich cultural heritage.

Temples & Route

  1. Kedarnath: Starts at Gauri Kund and involves a 16 km trek to the temple, set amid towering peaks and alpine scenery.

  2. Madhyamaheshwar: Approachable from Ukhimath, the trek passes through quaint villages like Ransi and Gaundhar.

  3. Tungnath: Accessible via a moderate 4 km trek from Chopta, located at one of the highest Shiva temples.

  4. Rudranath: Trekking routes vary; commonly reached by a challenging trek from Sagar or Gopeshwar.

  5. Kalpeshwar: The easiest, with a motorable road till Urgam village and a brief 3 km trek.

Spiritual Significance

The Panch Kedar temples symbolize parts of Lord Shiva’s body that appeared after he evaded the Pandavas. Each temple visit is a step in this divine journey—made richer by local legends, ritual ceremonies, and Himalayan mysticism.

Trek Difficulty & Best Season

  • The trek has mixed difficulty—while Tungnath and Kalpeshwar are relatively easy, Rudranath and Madhyamaheshwar require more stamina.
