The Kuari Pass Trek is a spectacular journey through the heart of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region, renowned for stunning views of snow-clad peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Dronagiri. Beginning near Joshimath, the trek meanders through dense oak and rhododendron forests, expansive alpine meadows like Gorson Bugyal, and snowfields before reaching the dramatic Kuari Pass at 12,516 ft (3,815 m). Known as the “Curzon Trail” after Viceroy Lord Curzon, this moderate trek captivates first-timers and seasoned adventurers alike with its majestic panoramas and diverse ecosystems.
The trek starts from Dhak village and passes through enchanting alpine forests, vibrant meadows, and rocky ridges. Along the way, you’ll enjoy close views of Himalayan giants such as Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Mukut Parbat. The trail’s gradual ascent helps trekkers acclimatize comfortably while absorbing the serene mountain environment.
Kuari Pass is part of a historic trading route, now transformed into a modern trekking experience that blends nature with cultural heritage. The region’s villages offer warmth and tradition, while the trekking path recalls footsteps of early explorers and shepherds of the region.
Rated moderate, Kuari Pass is accessible to beginners with reasonable fitness as well as more experienced trekkers seeking stunning views and a taste of high-altitude trekking.
The trek is best done from April to June and September to November when weather is stable and wildflowers bloom, offering bright clear vistas. Winter treks appeal to snow lovers but require proper gear and experience.
