About this tour

The Kedarnath Trek is one of the most memorable and spiritual journeys in the Garhwal Himalayas. This legendary trail takes you to the sacred Kedarnath Temple—one of the 12 Jyotirlingas—set dramatically at 3,583 meters above sea level, surrounded by snowy Himalayan peaks and the Mandakini River. The 16 km trek from Gaurikund is challenging but awe-inspiring, blending natural beauty, faith, and adventure in every step.

Route & Experience

The trek officially begins from Gaurikund (1,982 m), which pilgrims reach via road from Haridwar or Rishikesh. The route takes you through lush forests, waterfalls, and lively mountain hamlets—Jungle Chatti, Bheembali, Linchauli—before the final push to Kedarnath. Trekkers encounter pilgrims, sadhus, and stunning valley views throughout, with the trail being well-maintained and dotted with refreshment points.

Spiritual & Natural Highlights

Kedarnath Temple’s unique stone architecture, the evening aarti, Mandakini River, and views of Kedar Dome and Chorabari Glacier are spiritual and visual highlights. Visiting sacred spots like Bhairavnath Temple and taking in the sunrise at the shrine offers a deeply moving experience.

Difficulty & Preparation

This trek is moderate in difficulty. It’s accessible for most healthy people but still requires strong legs, stamina, and adequate time for altitude acclimatization. The sudden gain of over 5,000 feet can bring on fatigue and mild AMS, so it’s essential to go slow, hydrate often, and be physically and mentally prepared. Helicopter options are also available for those unable to trek.

Best Time to Visit

The trek is open from late April/early May to October/November (before Diwali), with the best months being May–June and September–October for clear weather and vibrant views. Avoid monsoon (July–August) due to landslides and winter when access is restricted.
