The Dodital Trek is a beautiful high-altitude trail in Uttarakhand’s Assi Ganga Valley, renowned for its pristine lake, mythological significance, and panoramic Himalayan views. The trek journeys through lush oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, quaint villages, and culminates at the sacred Dodital Lake, considered the birthplace of Lord Ganesha and home to rare trout. For more adventurous trekkers, the journey can be extended up to Darwa Pass/Top, which offers stunning vistas of the Bandarpoonch and Gangotri ranges.
The trail begins from Agoda village (7,300 ft) and winds through pine forests, terraced fields, and the rich flora of the Assi Ganga watershed. Highlights include local life, ancient temples, and a crystal-clear lake shrouded in folklore and lined with deodar forests. The area is dotted with serene campsites—Bebra, Manjhi, and finally Dodital itself—each offering unique mountain and valley vistas.
Dodital is revered as Ganesha’s birthplace and features temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Annapurna. The route also provides opportunities to spot Himalayan monals, musk deer, and other wildlife. Trekkers experience Garhwali hospitality, culture, and regional cuisine at local villages along the trail.
The trek is classified as easy to moderate and is ideal for fit beginners and families. The best months are April–June and September–November, when the weather is stable, wildflowers bloom, and distant peaks are clearly visible. Winter (December–March) offers a pristine snow experience for the more adventurous but presents added challenges.
