About this tour

The Hampta Pass Trek is one of the Indian Himalayas’ most dramatic crossovers, taking you within 5 days from the flower-filled valleys of Kullu to the stark, high-altitude deserts of Lahaul and Spiti. This moderate trek offers an ever-changing landscape—from deep forests and rivers to breathtaking glacial valleys—culminating at the Hampta Pass (4,290 m / 14,100 ft). It’s the ideal summer/monsoon trek for both beginners with some fitness and seasoned adventurers drawn to big mountain contrasts.

What Makes Hampta Pass Special?

  • True Himalayan Crossover:
Cross from the lush, green meadows of Kullu to the stark frame of Lahaul’s barren mountains. It’s a rare trek that lets you experience both sides of the Pir Panjal range in one go.

  • Chandratal Lake Option:
If weather and road conditions permit, you’ll visit the legendary Chandratal, a pristine turquoise high-altitude lake nicknamed “The Lake of the Moon”.

  • Monsoon Friendly:
Unlike most Himalayan trails, Hampta Pass remains a great (and safe) option in the monsoon (June–September), since it sits in the rain shadow of the mountains. Expect wildflowers, stream crossings, and mystical valley mists.

  • Accessible Yet Immersive:
With a moderate grade, easy ridge climbs, and frequent campsites, it’s excellent for trekkers transitioning to higher altitudes, or anyone eager to see rapid scenery changes in a single adventure.
