The Do Dham Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in India, covering two of the holiest shrines in Uttarakhand: Kedarnath (dedicated to Lord Shiva) and Badrinath (dedicated to Lord Vishnu). Set amidst the Garhwal Himalayas, this journey is a perfect blend of faith, adventure, and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature. The circuit is shorter and more accessible than the full Char Dham, making it ideal for those seeking spiritual fulfillment and Himalayan exploration in less time.
Kedarnath (3,583 m): Acclaimed as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, Kedarnath is reached via a challenging yet rewarding 16 km trek from Gaurikund (altitude 1,982 m). The ancient stone temple, set against a dramatic backdrop of snow-clad peaks and the Mandakini River, is an enduring symbol of devotion and endurance.
Badrinath (3,133 m): Connected by road and flanked by the Alaknanda River, Badrinath is a highly revered shrine where Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Nar-Narayan. The energetic town, vibrant temples, and the nearby Mana Village (last Indian village before Tibet) add rich cultural color to the spiritual journey.
Both sites are surrounded by stunning landscapes, glacial rivers, alpine meadows, and panoramic Himalayan views.
The route usually goes: Haridwar/Rishikesh → Guptkashi → Kedarnath → Badrinath → Rudraprayag → Haridwar/Rishikesh.
Kedarnath: Known as the place where Lord Shiva absolved the Pandavas of their sins.
Badrinath: Celebrates Lord Vishnu meditating as Nar-Narayan, with ancient legends, festivals, and holy hot springs nearby.
Pilgrims believe visiting both shrines in a single yatra fulfills deep spiritual aspirations and brings divine blessings.
