The Bali Pass Trek is a spectacular high-altitude expedition connecting the Ruinsara Valley to Yamunotri Valley in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas. Rising to an altitude of approximately 4,953 meters (16,207 ft), it offers dramatic landscapes of snow-capped peaks, glacial lakes, lush meadows, and pristine wildlife zones within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary National Park. Starting from the lively base camp of Sankri and ending at the sacred Yamunotri temple, this 8-day trek blends adventure, spirituality, and natural grandeur into one breathtaking Himalayan journey.
Bali Pass Trek offers panoramic views of towering Himalayan peaks like Swargarohini I, II & III, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak (Kalanag), and Kalanag. Trekkers cross varied terrains including dense pine forests, flowering meadows, rocky ridges, and snowy paths. The route passes scenic highlights such as the sparkling Ruinsara Tal (lake), Devsu Bugyal meadows, and glacier-studded valleys.
Ending at Yamunotri, one of the sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites and the source of the Yamuna River, the trek holds immense spiritual significance. Visiting the Yamunotri temple after the arduous journey adds a cultural and devotional dimension to the adventure.
Classified as moderate to difficult, the trek demands good physical conditioning, experience with altitude hiking, and the right gear for sub-zero temperatures. The challenging ascents, high passes, rocky soft-snow terrain, and unpredictable Himalayan weather require stamina and mental readiness.
Proper acclimatization and trekking with a knowledgeable local guide or group is highly recommended.
The trek traverses remote villages showcasing authentic Garhwali heritage and offers opportunities to spot Himalayan wildlife such as musk deer, blue sheep, and black bears. The route supports eco-friendly trekking practices and encourages respect for fragile mountain ecosystems.
